CHP: Election Board decision politically and legally incorrect

We find it politically and legally incorrect for a deputy to be stripped of his deputy status after he got his mandate,” Bihlun Tamaylýgil, secretary-general of the CHP (Republican People’s Party) told reporters after the CHP’s Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting on Wednesday.

Tamaylýgil pointed at the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) for being a chief culprit in the current situation by not lowering the 10 percent electoral threshold and for not making laws regarding political parties and electoral law more democratic. She also called on the government to take steps in this regard and to not, as she put it, “ignore the national will,” adding that the CHP considers it necessary to make legal amendments that will allow the pro-Kurdish deputy in question to make it into Parliament.
