Civilians banned from entering the operation zone in Ardahan

After the Turkish military’s murder of 1 civilian and wounding of another 2, police are preventing civilians from entering the army’s operation zone.

After soldiers’ murder of Kamber Morkoç and wounding of Sabri Morkoç and Altan Akın in the Gundik (Koyunlu) village of Ardahan’s Göle district this morning, Turkish police are preventing civilians from entering the army’s operation zone. Police have set up barricades with TOMAs and armored vehicles at the exit of Göle and prevent people from going to Gundik village located 6 km away from the district. As civilians carry out a sit-in protest, the meetings of HDP parliamentarians and administrators continue.

HDP Ardahan Parliamentarian Taşkın Aktaş, HDP Kars Parliamentarian Şafak Özanlı, and many other HDP and DBP administrators marched from the HDP district headquarters to the courthouse in order to condemn the soldiers’ attack. Protestors often chanted the slogans of "AKP will be brought to account" and "PKK is the people and the people are here" during the march.

At the end of the protest, HDP Parliamentarian Aktaş said that the attack was targeting the will of people from Göle and Ardahan which became apparent after June 7 elections. Aktaş said that they would be resisting future operation attempts and the body of deceased Kamber Morkoç (70) was being held at Ardahan State Hospital Morgue.
