Clashes around Ankara Security Directorate

In the wake of the “coup attempt” by Turkish Armed Forces, reports are coming through of heavy clashes around the Security Directorate in Turkish capital Ankara.

In the wake of the “coup attempt” by Turkish Armed Forces, reports are coming through of heavy clashes around the Security Directorate in Turkish capital Ankara.

Amid an increased aerial activity, gunshots are heard in and around Kızılay district which houses headquarters of governmental institutions.

A number of tanks have been deployed in Atatürk Boulevard and around the Turkish Parliament. Tanks moving on Atatürk Square and Atatürk Boulevard continue moving, crushing the cars that block the roads for the military. Some groups are trying to build barricades with these crushed cars and vehicles. Tanks have also been deployed around the Ministry of Interior.

Gas stations have been shut down on a central order and gas sale has been banned in the Turkish capital. People are in the meantime flocking to shopping centers and meeting their needs.

Reports include an explosion in the TRT building which has been seized by the army and a group of police has started waiting next to the building.
