Clashes in Lice area

Clashes have been reported in the rural areas of the villages of Dibek (Dêrxust) and Yolçatý (Sîsê) in the province of Lice/Diyarbakýr on Tuesday.

Turkish army has bombed the area between two villages with five helicopters since early hours in the morning. The forested land in the region has been set on fire by soldiers.

Cobra type helicopters suspended the bombing for only half an hour at 07:00 in the morning. Bombing resumed after reconnaissance flights were carried out by skorsky type helicopters for half an hour.

Villagers in the area are concerned as they say heavy weapons and bombs could have been used in the air assault because of loud explosions sounds coming from the operation area. Gunshots have been heard from the area following the 40 minute bombing by helicopters.

Villagers called for sensibility from public opinion for the forested land which –they said- was set on fire by soldiers from all quarters.

Many villagers are reported to have got stuck in the forested area with their animals.

On the other hand, many people, including BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Lice executives, wanted to go to the operation area where clashes are reported to be continuing. The group was stopped and not allowed to leave the village of Dibek by special operation police teams.
