Co-mayor of Amed faces up to 15 years in prison

After his removal from post, Mızraklı was imprisoned based on a fiction statement by a confessor that lacked evidence.

The co-mayor of Amed (Diyarbakır) Metropolitan Municipality, Selçuk Mızraklı, was removed from his post and imprisoned as part of the Turkish regime’s political genocide against the Kurdish people and their elected representatives in northern Kurdistan.

Jailed on October 22, Mızraklı was transferred from Diyarbakır D Type Closed Prison to Bünyan Prison in the Central Anatolian Kayseri province after a week.

After his removal from post, Mızraklı was imprisoned based on a fiction statement by confessor Hicran Berna Ayverdi who was arrested in May 2016 in Nusaybin district of Mardin. Although Ayverdi was under arrest for 3 years, Ayverdi made a confession on 20 March 2019 in order to benefit from the remorse law by claiming that Mızraklı operated as a 'member of an illegal organisation' during his service as a doctor. Aside from the lack of evidence, the confessor claimed to have heard about it from a 'friend'.

Following the first hearing in the case against Mızraklı which took place on December 25, the prosecutor has given an opinion yet before the second hearing which was scheduled for February 10.

The prosecutor asked 7,5 up to 15 years prison terms for Mızraklı and requested his deprival of the right to elect and be elected.
