Mızraklı: The resistance area is an area of fermentation

Co-mayor of Amed Metropolitan Municipality Selçuk Mızraklı, talked about the meaning of the resistance. "This area is an area of fermentation. That is why the AKP-MHP bloc has lost its ability to be legitimate now."

The three HDP-run metropolitan municipalities sezied by the AKP-MHP on August 19, are still under occupation. Kurds are continuing their resistance against the occupation in European cities, as well as in Turkey and Kurdistan.

Amed Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Selcuk Mızraklı talked to ANF about the 49 days of resistance and his impression after the talks the HDP held in Europe.

Mızraklı stated that they have witnessed a heavy police attack which included the return of torture in the streets in the first days of protest. The people were attacked, he said, but did not step back. Mızraklı drew attention especially to the character of the young people, the elderly, women and men, all, he said, quite determined to continue the resistance.

Against the one-man regime

Mızraklı said: "We have seen that these areas of resistance have soon become reference points for the people. There are citizens coming but also Turkey's many civil society organizations, political parties, artists, intellectuals and thinkers. So I see this as an area of fermentation, where democracy, legal values, human rights and freedoms prevailed against the current one-man regime. Most importantly it is also the place of reaction to this political coup. The AKP-MHP bloc has lost legitimacy."

Mızraklı continued: "When we look at the streets, we see that the story told by the AKP is no longer the reality of life. There are no stories to tell for the last 10 years. We are talking about a society in Turkey in the broad sense, under pressure from the regime, a society which has been stripped of all fundamental rights and freedoms. Today we see a reality in which the AKP-MHP bloc has fallen from the 50% support it enjoyed to under 40%."
