Committee established for the kidnapped soldiers

A committee has been created for the release of two soldiers and a civilian who were detained by HPG guerrillas and for the cessation of military operations. The commission consists of human rights defenders, artists, intellectuals, and democratic organization representatives.

According to information acquired by ANF, the committee includes artist Ferhat Tunc, IHD Chairman Öztürk Turkdogan, a representative from TTB, Turkish Peace Parliament, Federation of Alewis and families of kidnapped soldiers.

Giving information to ANF about the committee which is preparing to make a statement with the families of kidnapped soldiers at IHD Istanbul Branch on 8 August 2011, artist Ferhat Tunc remarked that their declaration will be a call to both the state and the organization. Tunc underlined that consciences need to awake to stop the bloodshed.

Tunc aid the followings; “In the current process of intense conflicts, we will demand the cessation of military operations and the release of kidnapped soldiers. We believe that our call could be a chance for the silence of weapons and a major contribution in terms of peace. We will make our call and go to take the soldiers and the health laborer if the organization gives a positive reply to us.”

Pointing out that a painful process is being lived, Tunc continued as follows; “The news of death coming every day are heart-wrenching and leads to a deterioration of mood of all of us. I believe we can certainly do something to stop the deaths. There is an urgent need for peace to stop the ongoing bloodshed and consciences need to awake to ensure peace. As the committee, we believe that the kidnapped soldiers will be released and operations will stop, which will give a chance to peaceful efforts and steps.”

Sergeant Abdullah Söpçeler, specialist sergeant Zihni Koç and health technician Aytekin Turhan were detained by HPG guerillas at Diyarbakir-Bingol highway on July 9.
