Conference on Kurdish language in Diyarbakýr

The Kurdish Language Conference has started in Diyarbakýr. The conference was joined by over 200 linguists. Among the speakers at the conference are also Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Ahmet Türk, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputies Özdal Üçer, Hüsamettin Zenderlioðlu, KURDI-DER Chair Burhan Zorooðlu, Prof.  Michiel Leezenberg (University of Amsterdam), Dr. Ýbrahim Seydo (French University of Sorbün), Hêmin Ebdulhemid (Federal Region of Kurdistan), Sami Tan and Zana Farqini.

Making the opening speech of the conference, DTK co-chair Ahmet Türk pointed out to the historical importance of the conference and underlined that language, culture and identity cannot be separated from each other.

Türk remarked that the Kurdish language has been suffering from the state cruelty for many years now and said the followings; “The Kurdish language should be used in all areas of life. It should be the language of education, culture and identity as it will otherwise face extinction in progress of time.”

Türk also replied to the statement of deputy PM Bülent Arýnç who had said that “Kurdish isn’t a language of civilization” by saying that “The Kurdish language was used at madrasas as the language of education for centuries. The Kurdish language raised a number of litterateurs such as Baba Tahiri, Ehmede Xani, Feqiyê Teyran and Mehmed Uzun whose efforts have revealed the literary side of the Kurdish language.”

Kurds should now create a common ground in the areas of both language and politics because of the fact that achievement is obtained through unity, underlined DTK Türk.

Speaking after Türk, linguist Massoud Þemsizad also pointed to the importance of the conference and similar common grounds to be created among Kurds.

Another speech was made by linguist Ýzeddin Abdullah who pointed out to the substructure formed by Kurds in Syria on the basis of Democratic Autonomy. Abdullah added that all Kurds in Syria can in this respect receive education in the Kurdish language.

The conference continues closed to the press.
