Coronavirus: Latest from Iran, Iraq and Southern Kurdistan

More coronavirus infections are reported from Iran, Iraq and Southern Kurdistan (Bashur).

The coronavirus pandemic that broke out in China and spread all around the world, has affected more people in Iran, Iraq and Southern Kurdistan (Bashur).

IRAN

Iran’s Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoosh Jahanpoor announced at a press conference on Sunday that 113 people have died of COVID-19 in the country over the past 24 hours, the country’s highest daily death toll since the outbreak of the respiratory disease.

The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran has hit 13,938 after detection of 1,209 new cases over the past 24 hours, he added.

Jahanpoor said while the coronavirus death toll in Iran has reached 724, a total of 4,590 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease.

The highest number of the new patients has been detected in the province of Tehran with 251 cases, followed by Khorasan Razavi with 143 ones, he added.

In the meantime, the second round of parliamentary elections scheduled for April 17 have been canceled and postponed to September 11 because of the pandemic.

IRAQ

Coronavirus continues to affect public life in Iraq and Southern Kurdistan as well.

In the Iraqi provinces of Karbala, Najaf, Ziqar, Maysan, Baghdad and Kirkuk, a part of those infected have recovered after treatment while more cases came out. The number of confirmed cases in Iraq has risen to 81 and 26 people have recovered.

According to reports, 10 people have died from coronavirus in Iraq so far while the total number of those infected rose to 110 with the cases reported from the Kurdistan region.

SOUTHERN KURDISTAN (BASHUR)

29 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sulaymaniyah and Hewler cities of Bashur so far. Thousands of people remain in in quarantine. The two-day curfew declared on March 13 has been extended for another three days on Sunday.

The Iraqi government had previously declared a two-day curfew in Mosul.

A three-day curfew has been put in place in Maysan, Ziqar, Karbala and Kirkuk today.
