The indictment is 2,400 pages long. It basically seeks jail sentences between 15 and 22 and a half years for over hundred people, among them prominent academics Ragýp Zarakolu and Professor Büþra Ersanlý. The indictment accuses the two academics as well as over hundred politicians (most of them Kurds) of leading and aiding a terrorist organization.
Between seven-and-a-half to 15 years is being demanded for Zarakolu, who is also accused of aiding the group.
The Ýstanbul 15th High Criminal Court announced on Monday that the indictment had been accepted, paving the way for the trial to start.
The indictment asserts that Ersanlý was in charge of the Peace and Democracy Party's (BDP) training course, the Politics Academy, and maintains that the content of the course was heavily influenced by the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and the KCK.
Ersanlý and Zarakolu were arrested last November.
