Court reject release request for deputies Ayhan and Yýldýrým

Diyarbakýr 5th Criminal Court rejected the release application by lawyers of Urfa MP Ýbrahim Ayhan and Mardin MP Gülseren Yýldýrým.

The rejection came to no surprise as the relevant courts have so far rejected all of the release applications for all of the deputies in prison. The Court found the two deputies not entitled to benefit from parliamentary immunity.

On Saturday another Diyarbakýr Cour rejected release applications for four other Labor, Democracy and Freedom deputies, namely, Hatip Dicle, Selma Irmak, Faysal Sarýyýldýz and Kemal Aktaþ. Hatip Dicle had been stripped of his mandate by the Election Board on 20 June.

The decision by the Courts are met with protest by thousand of people who have been staging demonstrations in several cities.

Ankara Court also ruled against the release of opposition party CHP (Republican's People Party) two jailed deputies Mustafa Balbay and Mehmet Haberal. Another Court also ruled against the release of nationalist MHP jailed Istanbul deputy Engin Alan who is in prison in the context of the Ergenekon case.

While Labor, Democracy and Freedom Block deputies have already stated they will boycott parliament, the CHP on Saturday hinted it too is considering boycotting the assembly. Block Mersin MP, Ertugrul Kurkçu has called for all of the parties to boycott parliament.
