Danish Parliament has reacted to Turkey’s attacks against Kurds and other infractions showing disregard for fundamental rights.
Parties in the Danish Parliament, including the governing party, issued a joint statement in reaction to Turkey.
The declaration with 111 signatures from MP’s states the following:
“The Danish Parliament believes the developments regarding the law in Turkey, especially those regarding fundamental rights and freedoms are of the kind to cause serious concern.
Turkey needs to work on improving the failings and inadequacies stated in the European Commission’s country report and carry the verdicts of European Court of Human Rights into practice immediately.
Danish Parliament calls all parties to an immediate return to peace negotiations to come to a permanent solution to the issue.”
'THE RIGHTS VIOLATIONS ARE CRITICAL'
Nikolaj Villumsen, Enhedslisten Party Foreign Affairs Representative, stated the following in regard to the declaration:
“I am really pleased with the Parliament unanimously issuing criticisms against the critical human rights violations in Turkey. Arresting publicly elected politicians, shutting down the opposing press and imprisonment of opposing journalists are unacceptable.”
It was also stated that Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, who will be representing Denmark in the summit in the EU, should not disregard the criticisms in the declaration and should act accordingly in the summit.
