DBP co-chair evaluates HDP's 'March for Democracy'

HDP organized a two-track democracy march to Ankara, beginning from the western province of Edirne and the southeastern province of Hakkari. The march started on June 15 and ended in Ankara on June 20.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) launched a "March for Democracy against the Coup" on 15 June. The march started from Edirne and Hakkari to end in Ankara to protest the oppression and persecution of the AKP-MHP government.

The march ended with a press release in Ankara on 20 June. Keskin Bayındır, co-chair of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) commented on the purpose of the march. Stating that they were carrying out support activities based in Istanbul after the HDP decided to march, Bayındır drew attention to the attacks of the AKP-MHP government. He reminded that since 2015, attacks against Kurds increased further as gains were achieved. Bayındır noted that the same attacks were launched against the forces of democracy in Turkey.

The "March for Democracy against the coup," said Bayındır “was the interlocking of the peoples against the oppression and repression. We have prepared a road map about how we should act in the upcoming process and our meetings with civil society organizations and the public. The people supported the HDP's march. The aim of the HDP's march was to solve the Kurdish problem in a democratic, united and fair manner. Once again, it was about opening the way to political and social dialogue and to end violence against women."

Emphasizing that they stated what their aims were from the beginning to the end of the march, Bayındır said: "The people and democracy forces supported the march against all propaganda. HDP's rightful march has the same meaning as Gandhi's march in India. In the second stage, we will meet with our people more and continue on our way. The AKP-MHP government wants to remove the HDP, which is getting stronger, from the political ground. It keeps its war policies alive. In this way it wants to leave the society without opposition. When the HDP march began, it started to bomb South Kurdistan. These attacks still continue."

Bayındır continued: "Everyone should be against this government for its unwillingness to solve the Kurdish issue and other problems in Turkey, including the CHP. As DBP, we will further improve our work, especially in Kurdistan, to protect the Kurdish people's gains against this government."
