DBP Co-Chair: Internal peace and solution require mutual efforts and steps

Speaking at the “Social Peace and Freedom Meeting” in Batman, DBP Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar criticized the state's expectation of unilateral steps.

The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) commenced the “Social Peace and Freedom Meetings” where the messages sent by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan during his recent meetings with the DEM Party İmralı Delegation will be discussed in various cities.

In this scope, a public meeting was held in Batman with the participation of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar, as well as representatives of political and civil society organizations in the city.

Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar stated that they wanted to discuss the developments with the people and take decisions together.

Uçar stated: “The Kurdish people's labor and will contributed to the founding of the country. This labor requires their acknowledgement as equal citizens. While discussions about a solution are ongoing, why is the state, which wants to ensure internal peace, waiting for unilateral steps? Why does it put the burden on Mr. Öcalan's call? This process requires mutual efforts. Mutual steps need to be taken in the context of discussions for a solution. If this does not happen, there will be no point in talking about these things. The state and the government need to take steps as a sign of sincerity. The state needs to say something and take a step. The opposition and social groups have a responsibility as much as the government does. It is important that these discussions, which we cannot name yet, are embraced by everyone.”

After Uçar's speech, the meeting continued closed to the press.
