The coup attempt of the ‘Peace at Home Committee’ from within the Turkish army ended in a bloody way. According to the statement of Gölbaşı Public Prosecutor’s Office, 42 people died and 40 people got injured in the capital city Ankara.
1st Army Commander General Ümit Dündar stated that "90 people fell as martyrs, 1563 soldiers got arrested, and 104 people were killed during last night’s clashes." Dündar said that the attempt was carried out by a group of soldiers from within the army, but the time of coups is over in Turkey. Dündar said that 41 police officers, 2 soldiers, and 47 civilians fell as martyrs during the clashes, and 1563 soldiers including the Brigader General Sadık Köroğlu were detained. Dündar added that 104 people were killed throughout last night.
General Ümit Dündar stated that Turkey showed its committment to democracy, and the paralel state structure would be wiped out from the army. Lastly, Dündar thanked the people and political parties of Turkey.
Anadolu News Agency announced that 1154 people got injured across Turkey last night.
The operations against the soldiers that attempted last night’s coup continue, and 29 colonels and 5 generals were removed from their positions by the Ministry of Interior Affairs. A total of 1563 army personnel have been detained across the country.
Minister of Justice Bozdağ noted that more people could be detained, including several judiciary figures.
So far, 3rd Army Chief of Operations Ekrem Çağlar, Mersin Garrison Commander and Akdeniz Regional Commander Commodore Nejat Atilla Demirhan, 39nt Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Commodore Hasan Polat, Ege Army Commander Commodore Memduh Hakbilen, Gendarme Schools Commander Commodore Sadık Köroğlu, Bingöl 49th Commando Brigade Commander Commodore Yunus Kotaman, Bolu 2nd Commando Brigade Commander Commodore İsmail Güneşer, 58th Artiller Brigade Commodore Murat Aygün, Trabzon 4th Motorized Infantry Brigade Commander Bahadır Dalgıç, Trabzon Governor Yücel Yavuz and the Police Commissioner of Zonguldak’s Kilimli District Soner Durgun have also been detained for "supporting the coup attempt."
