Declaration in solidarity with Rojava in Stockholm

Numerous associations signed a solidarity declaration with Rojava.

A declaration in solidarity with Rojava was made public in a press conference at the Hjalmar Branting Monument in front of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) building.

Olof Palme International Center, Solidarity Association with Kurdistan (SOL-KURD), Swedish Peace Council, Swedish Artists for Peace and anti-genocide human rights organization Kurdocide Watch CHAK signed the declaration which was read by former deputy mayor of Stockholm, Ann-Margarethe Livh.

The declaration pointed out that the Turkish state, along with the jihadists, attacked and occupied Syria's safest place, Afrin, forcing 240,000 of the 400,000 people in the city to flee their homes as a result of the occupation.

"Turkey's desire to occupy new lands - said the declaration - this time led them to Rojava. Turkey is openly threatening to eliminate the Kurdish self-government and for this has threatened Manbij and other Kurdish regions. Turkey's invasion plan encountered strong international condemnation. But that does not mean that the risk of occupation has been lifted.”

The declaration warned about the military attacks promoted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before the 24 June local elections, and reminded that similar attitude is to be expected for the forthcoming local elections on 31 March.

“20 January will mark the first year of the Turkish army's invasion of Afrin. Turkish military and jihadists have violated human rights every day since then in occupied Afrin.”

The declaration ends with the signatory associations supporting Afrin and the autonomous administration of Northern Syria and Rojava against all threats.
