BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) former Co-Chairman Selahattin Demirtas, demanding the amendment of all standing articles of the 1982 Constitution, said "The current '82 Constitution should stay as it is, because the new constitution to be issued will be much worse unless the introduction and the first three articles are reformed."
Answering Habertürk's questions, Demirtas made evaluations on Prime Minister Erdogan's call to give their blessing and the situation of independent candidates elected out of the BDP.
Expressing his views on the new constitution, Hakkari independent candidate Demirtas said the followings; "The AKP is not the proper ground of roughing out a new constitution. The ideal ground of a new constitution should be formed with a conciliation commission where each side will have an equal number of members. We should entirely leave the 1982 Constitution aside. Beginning from the first introduction sentence, we should make a completely new constitution. There are some obvious problems about the introduction and first three articles of the current constitution. We don't bear any objection against the state's shape, its capital city Ankara or its flag. These are also the points we defend but the first three articles need to be amended correctly, and in a way to form an integrity with other articles. The current '82 constitution should stay as it is, because the new constitution to be issued will be much worse unless the introduction and the first three articles are reformed."
