Demirtaş to be present in a hearing for the first time

The Bakırköy Court of General Sessions No.38 has decided that arrested HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş be brought to the hearing in person.

The Istanbul Court of General Sessions No.38 has decided that the HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş held under arrest in Edirne Type F Closed Prison be brought to the hearing on January 12 in person. Yesterday the prison administration has issued a notification that Demirtaş will be transferred to the hearing in accordance with the “presence” order issued by the court.

If Demirtaş is brought to the hearing in person, it will be the first time he will be in a court since his arrest on November 4, 2016.

Demirtaş is on trial for insulting the president with his statements in a speech in the Istanbul Atatürk Airport on his way back from a visit to Russia on December 24, 2015.
