BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) deputies have staged a sit in in Diyarbakýr, in Daðkapý square. The sit in was also an opportunity for the deputies to hold a press conference about the latest events. In particular the deputies denounced how once again Kurds have been denied to express their views. Indeed the march organized for the PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan was violently prevented by the police and the government, which did not give permission to thousands of people who were already directed towards Gemlik. But the press conference was also an opportunity to denounce the ongoing arrest campaign which has seen over thousand people ending up in prison in the past 5 weeks.
BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said that "while Öcalan is kept in isolation in Ýmralý island, the solution to the Kurdish question has no chance".
Demirtaþ added that "the most important way to peace is through Ýmralý. The ruling AK party knows and accepted this in the past. Which is why they held negotiations. Today is the anniversary of the October 9th international conspiracy [on this date Öcalan had to leave Syria]". Demirtaþ went on saying that "We are also protesting this and we explain clearly that we are taking to streets to prevent the death of people, not to harm anyone or create a tension. The AKP police must understand this because we are at squares for their security of life as well. We are answering to those who ask who we are, referring to the insult of a police officer to BDP Bingöl MP Ýdris Baluken in Diyarbakýr yesterday, that we are those trying to protect you because you can’t protect yourselves. Peace will come to this country when you understand this.”
