Demirtaþ: We won't accept any constitution

Speaking at the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) group meeting of on Tuesday, co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ remarked that the Kurdish people will not be the mascot of a constitution which neither agrees to mother language nor grants people the right for status.

Noting that AKP doesn’t join the debate on new constitution and defends all monist concepts of the 82 constitution as their ‘red line’, Demirtaþ summarized the current situation of the new-constitution process as follows; “Besides the lack of an agreement among the parties in the parliament on the new constitution, there is also a lack of dialogue and negotiations between the BDP and the government on the subject of the Kurdish issue. Some of the ministers say that they are holding talks with BDP to make the process look like as if progressing with negotiations. There is a need to make negotiations in an ethical and principled environment.”

BDP co-chair also mentioned the so-called expanding “KCK” operations which he evaluated as a part of a completely political process. “The detention of our people is introduced as a ‘severe blow against terror’. The order for detentions is given to AKP police following the determination of the names to be detained within the coordination of ministers. Detained people are afterwards referred to AKP’s prosecutors who demand their arrest”, added Demirtaþ.
