Protesters called on the UK government to take action on the hunger strike campaign against the isolation of Öcalan.
A demonstration was organised in front of the British Foreign Ministry in London to call attention to the Kurdish hunger strike campaign demanding the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The demonstration was also joined by Ali Poyraz, Nahide Zengin and Mehmet Sait Yılmaz who have been on an indefinite and non-alternating hunger strike in London since March 14.
Speeches made during the demonstration called on the UK government to take action as the hunger strike activists are nearing death. Demonstrators submitted a file about the hunger strike resistance and its demands to the Foreign Ministry officials.
British Labor Party MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle brought the Kurdish hunger strike campaign to the agenda of the UK Parliament session held on Tuesday. The Labor Party MP addressed the following remarks to Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt; “Imam Sis has been on a hunger strike in Newport city of Wales for 108 days. We visited him yesterday. Besides Imam Sis, thousands of Kurds are currently on hunger strike demanding the end of the isolation on Abdullah Öcalan. Turkey is a NATO member and several deputies and journalists are behind bars at the moment. Will the Foreign Ministry take action on this matter, discuss this issue with Turkish state officials and act in line with the motion passed by the Welsh Assembly?”
Foreign Minister said the following in the answer to the Labor MP; “I will deal with this matter in detail. Turkey could be a member of NATO and a close ally of England, but this does not mean that we will not speak up against the human rights abuses committed by the Turkish state.”
