‘We will stand by the Kurdish people’

“The hunger strike of Leyla Guven and 14 Kurdish activists in Strasbourg is a legitimate resistance because the isolation of Ocalan is against human rights. Along with the hunger strikers, we will always stand by the Kurdish people,” said PCF mayor of Champigny, Christian Fautré.

Member of Champigny municipal council and member of the France-Kurdistan Solidarity Community, Şengül Karaca, spoke on behalf of the community and stated that they must raise awareness about the hunger strikers.

‘Not despair, hunger strike requires great determination’

Spokeswoman for the TJK-E, Berivan Firat thanked the municipality of Champigny for their support for the Kurdish people, and said: “After she was released from prison, Leyla Guven continues her hunger strike in a broader manner. With her release, the Turkish state planned to stop the solidarity with Leyla Guven; yet she is determined to continue the hunger strike.”

Firat noted that the isolation of Ocalan was a crime against humanity, “14 people continue their hunger strike in Strasbourg. One of the hunger strikers, KCDK-E Co-chair Yüksel Koç is in a critical situation; he was transferred to hospital yet refused any treatment. The hunger strikes led by the Kurdish people are not out of despair, on the contrary, hunger strike requires a great deal of determination. We condemn the silence of the CPT, the European Court of Human Rights and European organizations on the isolation of Ocalan,” Firat added.
