Demonstrations for the PKK in Europe

In Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Italy Kurds have taken to the streets in protest at the repression against the Kurdish liberation movement and have called for freedom for Abdullah Öcalan.

At the same time as the demonstration against the German ban on PKK in Berlin, actions were also staged in Vienna, Marseille, the Hague, Milan and Borlänge.

In Vienna, hundreds of people demonstrated with banners reading "Stop the PKK ban" and "Freedom for Öcalan, Status for Kurdistan" from Westbahnhof to Heldenplatz. The demonstrators carried flags bearing the image of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and photos of the three leading PKK members Murat Karayılan, Duran Kalkan and Cemil Bayık, who have been subjected to a bounty put by the United States. In speeches, the repression against the Kurdish liberation movement and the isolation of Öcalan was condemned. In addition, attention was called to the hunger strike of HDP MP Leyla Güven in the prison of Amed (Diyarbakir) and a solidarity hunger strike was announced.

Also in Montpellier, Borlänge and the Hague demonstrations took place on the same occasion. In the Hague, a hunger strike was launched under the motto "Free Abdullah Öcalan!".

In Stockholm, a hunger strike was announced to start on Monday.

In Freiburg activists hung a banner with the PKK flag and a picture of Ocalan on a bridge near the station to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the PKK.

In Milan, Kurds joined a demonstration against the laws against refugees, in which they condemned the US putting a bounty on PKK executives and the isolation of Öcalan.

In Melbourne city of Australia, Kurds organised an event marking the 40th anniversary of PKK's founding and denounced the aggravated isolation imposed on Öcalan by the Turkish state.   highlighted the Kurdish freedom movement's fight against ISIS.
