Around 160 people, including journalists, who crossed from Kobanê into the district of Suruç through the Mürşitpınar border gate two days ago, are being held at the Suruç Vocational High School. In a meeting with the Governor of Urfa, HDP MPs were told that a special team is expected to arrive from Ankara either today or tomorrow to question the people who are being detained.
The people from Kobanê are continuing a hunger strike they launched yesterday in protest at mistreatment and insults. Some of those being detained are ill and are not receiving treatment. On asking to see a doctor, they have been told by soldiers: “There is no hospital and no doctors. Let your doctors come and treat you.” The conditions of Xezne Nebî and Kendal Faris are said to be particularly poor.
After not receiving any information for 2 days the people from Kobanê announced they were starting a hunger strike yesterday. Of 223 people the elderly have been released after questioning, leaving around 160 still in custody. There are many journalists amongst the 160 being held.
