In a police raid on October 30 in the cities of Mardin and Amed (Diyarbakir), Free Women’s Movement (TJA) Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan, Ramazan Kalkan (76), one of the executives of MEYA-DER which wasshut down with a governmental decree, Hatice Kalkan, Fettah Tekin, Mesut Çelik (70), former Mayor of Kilavuz Ahmet İnci, former Mayor of Akarsu Lokman Fındık and Sakine Yılmaz, Hasip Aktaş and Cihan Güçlük were detained.
The detainees were transferred to the Mardin Criminal Court of Peace with a request for an additional 4-day detention period by the Mardin Prosecutor's Office. The detention period of 14 people who were brought to the courthouse in the afternoon has been extended for another 4 days in line with the prosecutor's request.
It is reported that the investigation initiated by the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is related to the activities of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and 14 people have been detained for their participation in the "Neighborhood Council" and "City Council" activities. Within the scope of the investigation, it is stated that the political activities of 14 people between 2014 and 2016 are subject to investigation.
