A group of women who celebrated Newroz in Adana Closed prison were not only tortured but also sentenced to isolation for twelve days and denied free visit for one year.
Human rights are constantly being denied, torture is still a common feature in Turkish prisons.
The events in Adana Closed prison were exposed by Human Rights Association (IHD) Mersin branch which received a complaint from Ramazan Eren, husband of Emine Eren, one of the prisoners subjected to torture and insults as well as punishments.
Ramazan Eren stated that he had learned about the event during his last visit with his wife who has been in prison for 1,5 month on charges of membership of a terror organization.
"The ward my wife is staying in has a capacity for seventeen people but hosts twenty seven prisoners at the moment. They therefore have to sleep on the ground most of the time. They are also not provided with warm water for having a bath", noted Eren.
Speaking to ANF on the subject, IHD Mersin Branch chair Ali Tanrýverdi stated that they have been receiving complaints about harassment and rights violations in Adana Karataþ Closed prison for a long time now. Listing the major issues voiced in the applications as "overcrowded wards, irregular food delivery and free visit ban", Tanrýverdi stated that they would send a delegation to meet prisons prosecutor and other authorities and share their observations with the public opinion following a visit to the prison.
