Diyarbakir citizens protesting against Dicle exclusion

Diyarbakýr citizens have started to file applications to Diyarbakýr Provincial Election Board concerning the exclusion of Hatip Dicle from the parliament by the Supreme Election Board which nominated Dicle before the elections but ruled to strip off him of his legal mandate after the elections.

On their letters of application, citizens demanded the cancellation of the elections in Diyarbakir.

Dicle's voters, remarking that they cast their votes pursuant to the Diyarbakýr's voting paper which included the names of the absolute candidates, said the followings; "However, after the announcement of the election results, and even after the delivery of the mandate which was cancelled by the provincial election board on grounds that Dicle isn't competent to be elected due to the imprisonment sentence given to him three days before the elections, the freewill of voters was ignored as Dicle's right and mandate were presented to another outvoting MP candidate for another party."

"It is against the law and justice to make voters and the elected pay for the delinquency of the Supreme Court. The task of the YSK is to decide on the competency of a candidate to be elected a deputy, not to strip off a MP of his mandate, which is the task of the Parliament."

Applicants to Diyarbakýr Provincial Election Board wrote the followings on their letters of; "For the abrogation of this injustice and the violations of rights caused by this decision, I demand the cancellation of the mandate taken from Dicle and given to an outvoting candidate, the correction of the legal action against Hatip Dicle and the repetition of the elections."

While reportedly 25 people have given their application letters today for the cancellation of the elections, the number of applicants is expected to exceed thousands in the following days.
