Downturn continues in Turkish economy

According to TUIK’s inflation data from April, consumer prices increased 1.69% monthly and 19.50% annually.

Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK) announced inflation numbers for the month of April. The Consumer Price Index (TUFE) increased by 1.69% from the previous month, 4% from December, 19.50% from April last year and 19.39% on average for the last 12 months.

PEOPLE OVERWHELMED BY PRICE HIKES

Food prices have increased 1.40% from the previous month. The increase in food prices was followed by house goods and medical spending.

From main spending groups, among those included in the April 2019 index, clothing and shoes increased by 5.35%, house goods 2.65%, various goods and services by 1.94% and food and nonalcoholic beverages by 1.40%.
