Dozens detained in political genocide operation in several cities

The operation against the HDP took place in several cities, mainly in Mersin, Adana, Istanbul, Amed and Urfa.

The Turkish authorities have launched a new political genocide operation as part of the “Kobanê investigation”. Detention warrants have been issued for at least 91 people in 13 cities.

The investigation has been initiated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. 46 people have been detained in the political genocide operation as part of the investigation.

The detentions took place in several cities, mainly in Mersin, Adana, Istanbul, Amed and Urfa.

The target of the government crackdown is the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP).

The following names are among those detained: Former Mersin Co-Mayor Fazıl Türk, former employees of the municipality Hasan Çat, Selami Turan and Ülfiye Özcan, former Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality employee and lawyer Metin Kılavuz, HDP former accountant Zeki Çelik, HDP Adana provincial administrator Mustafa Bilgiç, Şefik Özbey and Necmettin Aslan.

The prosecutor blames those detained for “taking part in the financial structuring of the Kobanê events and providing financial assistance to the families of dead or injured PKK members”. According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, detention warrants have been issued for 91 people in 13 cities.

BAN ON LAWYERS

As part of the Ankara-based political genocide operation, those detained in different cities have not yet been brought to Ankara. A 24-hour ban has been imposed on lawyers to meet the detainees in many cities except Urfa. It is also reported that a confidentiality order has been placed over the files of the detainees.
