Dozens of people taken into custody in İzmir and Van

Turkish police have taken 45 persons into custody during house raids in Izmir and Van this morning.

The Turkish police conducted raids on many houses in the western province of İzmir this morning, where a 'Vigil of Justice' was initiated yesterday. Halkevi head Evrim Çakir, Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) Assembly chairman Onur Kılıç are among the at least 10 people detained in the operation.

Police forces also conducted raids on many houses in the Ekiciler (Sêvek), Uncular (Qerekîs), Doğancı (Doxançî) villages and the center of Van's Erciş district, taking 35 persons into custody following searches in the targeted houses. 27 of the detainees have been transferred to the district gendarmerie station while another eight taken to the District Security Directorate.

Among the detainees are DBP Municipal Council member Faruk Köken, Mahmut Bilici, Adem Sala and Bedran Sala.
