Eðitim-Sen staged a sit-in against detentions

Eðitim-Sen Diyarbakýr Branch staged a sit-in to protest against the arrests which have taken place in recent days.

Eðitim-Sen member teachers and administrators of unions affiliated to KESK, representatives of political parties and laborers have been prevented from marching to AKP Baðlar district building by a huge display of heavily armed police.

The demonstrators then staged a sit-in and held a press conference which was attended and supported by BDP deputies Ayla Akat Ata, ESP Diyarbakir Provincial Chair Ramazan Karakaya, BDP Diyarbakýr Provincial Chair Mehmet Ali Aydýn and Diyarbakýr Medical Chamber President Þemsettin Koç.

Demonstrations in Diyarbakýr are not permitted for the last two months. The protest by Eðitim-Sen was not granted permission by Diyarbakir Governorate and Police Department for “security” reasons.

In a press release he read in front of AZC Plaza, Eðitim-Sen Diyarbakýr Branch Chair Kasým Birtek demanded the immediate release of their detained comrades, remarking that they would not stay silence in front of non-democratic practices.
