Seven members of the Newroz organization committee were charged to a total of eight years and nine months in Viranþehir (Urfa) on Friday. The defendants, which included Viranþehir deputy mayor Nayýf Aslan and Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Viranþehir co-chair Birgül Özkara were accused of violating the law on meetings and demonstrations.

Deputy mayor Aslan has declared that they will appeal the ruling.
