Speaking at the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) meeting in Diyarbakir, co-chair Aysel Tuðluk said “I would like to begin my speech with words promising hope for you and the peace of our country’s peoples, however , unfortunately, I once again have to talk about worrisome clashes, deaths and possible consequences as we are on the verge of ‘our Disaster. President Abdullah Gül had said 'Good things will happen' but nothing has happened so far. Now, again, we are at a deadlock. I do not have the heart to say it but I have to say that the expression ‘Bad things will happen’ tells the feeling I have. Concerning the Kurdish issue, everyone knows that we are moving towards the zero point rapidly, not slowly”.
The meeting was called to discuss the situation after the Elections Board decision to ban BDP sponsored candidates from the 12 June general elections. A decision subsequently reversed by the Elections Board. The consequences of that decision though are still alive and relate above all to the safety of Kurdish people during the election campaign. Since the Elections Board ban decision, over 800 people have been arrested. Two people have died and scores injured. Military operations continue at a speed. At the meeting the possibility of boycotting the elections was also discussed.
Tuðluk added that “Kurdish and Turkish children are made to kill each other for more sovereignty, more exploitation and more power. Within an inch of the peace, in a process of negotiations after dialogues, in an expectation and hope for practical steps for the solution, some of them are again touching the bleeding wound and blood is spilled in streams. The ideological institution called YSK (Turkish Supreme Election Board) makes a nonsense decision and tries to prevent the democratic representation. People are resisting and defending at the cost of their lives. And the result is; back to the drawing board. But the cost is the life of Ibrahim Oruc, hundreds of detentions and arrests and tens of wounded. The militarist institution called TSK (Turkish Armed Forces) carries out an operation with an extreme power and technology against the guerrilla in inertia position and kills seven. The funeral ceremony of four guerrillas was made in this city yesterday. You all know that the city will not recognize anyone as its pain and anger grows up”.
