Eleven university students arrested in Kars

Eleven out of 35 students detained the day before have been remanded in custody.

Police had taken 35 students of Kafkas University into custody after attacking a demo against the murder by police of two Kurdish civilians in Gever, Hakkari's Yüksekova district, on 6 December.

Eight of the students were released after the police inquiry, while 27 others were referred to Kars Courthouse. 16 among them were released after bearing testimony to the prosecutor, and 11 others were referred to court which ruled their arrest for alleged membership to an illegal organization and spreading propaganda for the organization.

Eleven students have been sent to Kars closed prison.

The lawyers of the students will reportedly object to the court decision tomorrow.
