The visit is reportedly postponed because Turkish authorities don't want to meet with Dutch rapporteur Kati Piri who has prepared reports critical of the Turkish government.
The EP statement said the visit by EP Foreign Relations Committee Chair German MP Elmar Brok and Turkey rapporteur Kati Piri has been postponed. There was no information on the new date for the meeting, and that is reportedly due to the Turkish side expressing negative opinion.
EP sources say that the Turkish government didn’t have a problem with Elmar Brok but refused to meet with EP Turkey rapporteur Dutch socialist MP Kati Piri.
It is known that Kati Piri’s comments that “the best answer” to dictatorial practices in Turkey would be to pause EU accession talks was met with reaction from Turkey.
