Erdogan rejected BDP's call for negotiations

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan rejected a call from Peace and Democracy Party backed independent canidates for a dialogue.

To overcome the crisis after High Election Board's decision, the independent deputies set up a committee that is planning to conduct a number of visits in Ankara to tackle the crisis.

In this context, the members of the committee, including Diyarbakýr deputy Þerafettin Elçi and Mardin deputy Ahmet Türk, asked President Abdullah Gül and the prime minister to have a meeting to discuss the crisis. But Erdogan is reported to turned the offer down.

The BDP withdrew their demand for a meeting in the face of the prime minister's oath-taking proviso, and they decided to hold their weekly parliamentary group meetings in Diyarbakýr. The BDP executives and independent deputies confirmed that they had asked for an appointment.

Meanwhile, the BDP members continued to meet with ambassadors of foreign countries in Ankara to promote their case and to seek their support. The BDP also applied to the president's principal clerk asking for an appointment, but they received no response from Gül.

Currently, they are boycotting Parliament in protest of a Supreme Election Board (YSK) ruling that barred a BDP member, Hatip Dicle, from serving in Parliament.
