The Congress Bureau has received and taken note of an updated list of the local elected representatives who are currently in detention in Turkey. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the Commissioner of Human Rights have also made public statements expressing concern at recent developments in Turkey.
The Monitoring Committee of the Congress discussed these developments and your particular case at its last meeting, in Stockholm in February, and some of the Congress members have asked the Congress to organise another visit to Diyarbakýr. On this occasion Congress Secretary Andreas Kiefer informed the Committee of the contacts that we have had concerning your case with the relevant Council of Europe actors, namely the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioners Office, the CPT and the Venice Commission.
During the Congress Session, in March, your case was raised by various members and some national delegationss of the Congress visited the Kurdish protestors who are currently oon hunger strike in Strasbourg. Several members of the French delegation have also written to me in support of your request to send a delegation to Diyarbakýr.
Whitmore ended the letter remarking that he will continue to raise the case regularly and explore the possibility of organising another visit to Güven in Diyarbakýr Prison in the autumn.
