European Parliament to host conference on Êzîdîs
The European Parliament is set to host a conference in Brussels on November 19th to discuss the threats being faced by the Êzîdî community and the steps needed to be taken against these threats.
The conference will handle the situation of Êzîdî Kurds who were brought to the agenda of the international community in wake of the humanitarian tragedy they have been through since ISIS gangs started to attack their hometown Sinjar early August.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the European Federation of Êzîdîs are among the organizers, and the Brussels Kurdish Institute among the sponsors of the conference which will be hosted by Ana Gome from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
Following an opening speech by Ana Gomes at 5 pm on 19 November, the conference will continue with a panel discussion to be moderated by Josef Weidenholzer who is also from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.
This will be followed by a speech by Şefik Tagay, Chair of the Association of Êzîdî Academics, about the history of the Êzîdî community from early history to today, and an evaluation by Ali Atalan, co-president of the European Federation of Êzîdîs on the recognition of status of Êzîdîs.
Eyüp Doru, the HDP Representative in Europe, will discuss the responsibilities falling to Europe's share regarding the refugees in North Kurdistan, after which Rima Tüzün, Head of Foreign Affairs bei European Syriac Union, will hold a speech about the political status of Assyrian Syriacs.
