The release request put forward by lawyers for Ergenekon case suspects and jailed deputies is expected to be assessed early this week.
A large number of prisoners, those tried in Ergenekon case in particular, requested their release within the scope of 3rd judicial amendment package which was approved by the Turkish Assembly on 3 July.
Among those having requested their release are CHP (Republican People’s Party) Ýzmir deputy Mustafa Balbay, Zonguldak deputy Mehmet Haberal, Hurþit Tolon, Doðu Perinçek, Tuncay Özkan, Dursun Çiçek and former General Staff Ýlker Baþbuð.
Lawyers of the Sledgehammer" ('Balyoz') coup case also filed a petition to Istanbul 10th High Criminal Court for the release of their clients, including retired generals Çetin Doðan, Ýbrahim Fýrtýna, Orgeneral Bilgin Balanlý, retired admiral Özden Örnek and retired lieutenant general Engin Alan who was elected deputy for MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) in general elections on June of 2011.
Oda TV jailed suspects Soner Yalçýn, Barýþ Terkoðlu and Barýþ Pehlivan have also demanded release within the scope of recently approved judicial control scheme.
Turkish courts have rejected the release request of KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) suspects within the scope of 3rd judicial package. Among those who have been denied release by Turkish courts are Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) jailed deputy for Þýrnak Faysal Sarýyýldýz and KCK suspects in KCK Istanbul trial.
The requests of BDP deputies Gülser Yýldýrým, Selma Irmak, Ýbrahim Ayhan and Kemal Aktaþ are also expected to be concluded within this week.
