The Platform of Families of Jailed Gezi Protestors held its 16th weekly demo at Istanbul's main Galatasaray Square on Sunday.
During this week's demo, families told about their recent meetings with their children during the feast of sacrifice.
Speaking here, Çağrı Aydopan's brother Cihan Aydoğan said that Gezi protestors in Edirne F Type Prison are being subjected to arbitrary practices and punishments by the prison administration, such as being provided with warm water only one hour a week and unhealthy food.
Speaking after, teacher Feride Elçin, a Gezi protestor herself, said that it would be a crime against humanity not to seek justice for Gezi martyrs and victims.
Elçin said that all women, Kurds, Alevis and other oppressed circles in the country faced the risk of sharing the same fate with Gezi martyrs.
Elçin remarked that the dominant system which tells women to sit at home and cook meals and men to beat and kill their wives has taught people to resist on streets.
Speaking after, İmran Aydın's father Hayri Aydın and Hasan Tunç's mother Leyla Tunç also called attention to the denial of basic rights of the Gezi protestors behind bars and the increasing arbitrary practices they are being subject to since the jailbreak in Bingöl prison.
“We seek justice in a system which is grounded on injustice. We will continue defend the rights of our children”, they underlined.
Berfu Canbay, who read the press statement on behalf of the Platform, remarked that the ruling AKP government enabled no freedom of thought, expression and organization in the so-called democratisation package it has recently unveiled.
