Families of Roboski victims appeal to Diyarbakýr Courthouse

Families of Roboski victims appealed to Diyarbakýr Courthouse and presented five separate petitions to Deputy Public Prosecutor for the completion of the investigation into the air assault by Turkish warplanes which took the life of 34 civilians in the village of Roboski/Þýrnak on 28 December of 2011.

The relatives of murdered victims who were accompanied by 14 Bar Association Chairs staged a protest demonstration in front of the courthouse of Diyarbakýr after presenting the petitions to Public Prosecutor Ahmet Karaca.

In a statement on behalf of 14 Bar Associations in the region, Mardin Bar Association Chair Azat Yýldýrým underlined that the investigation into the massacre has still not been completed since the event and said that; “No concrete step has been concerning the murder of 34 people, while many people have been imposed sentence for the attack against Uludere Governor during the funeral ceremony of the victims of the massacre.” Yýldýrým also pointed out that the reports and images of the event haven’t been shared with public within the process of the investigation.

Remarking that the Turkish state has been trying to leave the massacre off the agenda and to protect those responsible for the event, Yýldýrým added that; “We call on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice to fulfill their duties, the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission to share the truths with public and relevant authorities to remove the confidentiality verdict on the file in order to ensure active participation of victims’ families in the investigation. We also urge relevant prosecution offices to conduct an effective and fair investigation so that justice could be administered in the soonest time.”

Speaking after the press release, Zeki Tosun who lost his 25 year old son in the massacre stated that they ask for the revelation of the perpetrators, not compensation.

Mothers and families of victims underlined that they don’t want to receive compensation in return for the murder of their children.
