Family of Kurdish guerrilla to wait until tomorrow in Malatya

The family of Diyarbakýr born Kurdish guerrilla Mehmet Kocakaya have set off to Malatya in order to retrieve their son's body. Mehmet Kocakaya lost his life during the clashes in Silvan (Diyarbakýr) on 14 July. The family of the Kurdish guerrilla has been supported by MEYA-DER and BDP officials in their recovery of the body from Malatya's hospital.

The family though was told to wait until Monday as the prosecutor was not available on Sunday.

On 14 July heavy clashes were lived in Bayrambaþý (Sêdeqnê), in Silvan. As a results of the clashes 13 soldiers have died while over 7 have been wounded. Two guerrillas also lost their lives and their bodies have been recovered. The Turkish General Staff claim that 7 guerrillas have lost their life, but the news is not confirmed. Indeed HPG (People's Defence Forces) have stated that the news is a lie and pointed out that only 2 bodies have been found. It was disclosed that some of the soldiers were actually wearing guerrilla's clothes. And indeed the circumstances of what really has happened in Silvan have not been clarified as the Turkish General Staff claim soldiers were killed by a fire ignited by guerrillas' granades where as locals and a commission of civil societies association stated the fire did not appear to be that big as to claim so many lives. Indeed locals reported heavy bombing through the day of the clashes.

The body of guerrilla Mehmet Kocakaya (codenamed Þoreþ Amed) will be recovered by his family in Malatya. The family has applied to the Turgut Özal hospital for the release of the body.
