Salih Kandil and his two sons have gone from North Kurdistan to join the growing resistance in Kobanê against the attacks of ISIS gangs. The father and his two sons are defending Kobanê on three fronts along with YPG (People's Protection Units) fighters.
Salih Kandil, who went from Istanbul to join the ranks of the YPG when ISIS attacks began in July, lost an eye during a battle. When the latest ISIS attacks began on 15 September he again took his place amongst those defending Kobanê despite having lost an eye. His sons Deniz and Sinan are also alongside their father. Salih Kandil said: "We will resist until the last drop of our blood."
He lost an eye, but did not abandon the struggle
Salih Kandil, who joined the ranks of the YPG in July, said: "I left Istanbul, where I lived for years, to come here. I'm from Urfa originally. I was wounded on the western front in Kobanê on 30 July and lost an eye, but when the onslaught began on 15 September I once again joined the ranks of the YPG."
Two of his sons also involved in the resistance
Salih Kandil said that when the latest attacks began his 18 and 19-year-old sons Sinan and Deniz had come to Kobanê and also joined the YPG. Kandil said he was proud of his sons, adding: “I wish there was more we could do for our people.”
They are defending Kobanê on three fronts
While Deniz is on the western front, Sinan is fighting on the eastern front along with his father.
We will not abandon our land
“We will not abandon our land to anybody. It is ours and we have to defend it," says Salih Kandil, adding: "We are fighting the heavy weapons of ISIS with our will power and courage. They will never take Kobanê. We will turn it into an inferno for them. We will fight to the last drop of our blood."
