The global backlash against the Turkish military campaign against North and East Syria since November 19 continues. Unlike Minister of Interior from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Nancy Faeser, who endorsed the AKP-MHP government and the invasion attacks by saying "the attacks must be proportionate", the FDP, a partner of the federal government, voiced criticism.
Ulrich Lechte, the Foreign Affairs Spokesperson of the FDP, answered ANF’s questions concerning the statement made by Minister of Interior Faeser in Ankara last Tuesday and the attacks of the Turkish state. Lechte said that Turkey's attacks on Kurdish regions are unacceptable.
The FDP politician said that they are grateful to the Kurdish people for defeating the ISIS group and demanded that the latest attacks of the Turkish state should be investigated urgently. On his social media account, Lechte said that the attacks of Iran and the Turkish state showed similarities. “We should take action now to put an end to the attacks against the Kurds,” he wrote.
GYSI: CIVILIANS ARE MURDERED EACH DAY
In a statement on his social media account, the Foreign Affairs Spokesperson of the Left Party, Gregor Gysi, reacted harshly to the statement of Minister of Interior Faeser. Gysi pointed out that the Turkish attacks had nothing to do with "self-defence" and emphasized that there was no United Nations decision on this issue. Gysi stressed that a NATO member waged a war in defiance of international laws, saying, “Contrary to what the Minister of Interior said, this war is taking place disproportionately, civilians are killed each day.”
FOREIGN MINISTRY: NO FURTHER STATEMENT
Omid Nouripour, Co-Chair of the Green Party, a partner of Olaf Scholz's government, Claudia Roth, Minister of Culture and a prominent member of the Greens, and Michael Roth, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson of the SPD, did not respond to the questions of the Kurdish media concerning the attacks of the Turkish state.
In a similar vein, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not respond to the question "What did Minister of the Interior Faeser mean when she said that the attacks should be proportionate?" The Spokesperson said that no further statement would be made other than those of yesterday and the previous day. At a press conference on Monday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Christopher Burger called on Turkey to "act proportionately and respect international law".
