This year’s Filmamed Documentary Film Festival is dedicated to 34 people who lost their live in Roboski massacre in December of 2011.
The festival which is organized by Kayapýnar Municipality for the second time this year kicked off on 19 May night at Cegerxwin Youth Culture and Art Center in Diyarbakýr [Amed]. The opening speech of the reception was made by Kayapýnar Deputy Mayor Mahmut Dað who said that “Art in the territory we live in is the indication of not only making life beautiful but also of basic social struggle and resistance. Creating art will be nothing more than a search for a beauty absent from human values unless art, esthetic and intellectual richness are collectivized with the values of basic social struggle and artists make their position clear on the side of the oppressed against the cruel. “
Dað underlined that all peoples should protect their native languages and added; “Filmamed Documentary Film Festival is making headway on the road to become a prominent part of the cultural and artistic identity of our city. We are proud to organize a festival which gathers opponent directors who concern themselves about making life beautiful and ensuring an equal and common life without war and exploitation.”
Speaking afterwards, Festival Director Ýlhan Bakýr pointed out that 34 documentary films in the festival will be displayed in the name of 34 villagers who were bombed by warplanes in the village of Roboski.
Films within the scope of the festival will be displayed at Cegerxwin Youth Culture and Art Center from 20 to 26 May.
