Final declaration of the conference on Kobanê at EP released

"Our conference means strengthening of the resistance for democracy, human rights and common future being waged by women and men against ISIS", said the final declaration of the “International Mobilisation for Rebuilding Kobanê” conference at the EP.

The final declaration of the “International Mobilisation for Rebuilding Kobanê” conference held at the European Parliament on July 1st, has been released.

Calling attention the wave of attacks launched by ISIS gangs on Kobanê on 15 September 2014, the final declaration remarked that the the Kurdish people and forces of YPG/YPJ waged great resistance, and were also supported by the aerial strikes of the international coalition. The declaration recalled that Kurds liberated Kobanê on the 134th day of the resistance and extended thanks to this resistance and support that enabled it.

"Our conference means strengthening of the resistance for democracy, human rights and common future being waged by women and men against ISIS", the declaration said, recalling that 200 thousand people who had been forced to leave Kobanê during the times of the battle were welcomed back into the town following its liberation which was also celebrated by democracy forces across the world.

It also noted that the conference at EP on July 1st, presided by President Martin Schultz, was organized as part of the international support for meeting the basic needs of Kobanê, and the reconstruction of the war-torn town.

Saying that the conference hosted representatives from Kobanê, militants, senior representatives of the European Union, and UN organizations that took an international initiative for the rebuilding of the town, the final declaration put emphasis on the importance of aid and support for the normalization of the regions liberated in Syria.

Noting that the conference coincided with a time when a permanent agreement could be reached with local administrators, the declaration said the conference pointed to the need for political and humanitarian support for the areas liberated from ISIS.

Drawing attention to the mines heavily laid by ISIS gangs in the Kurdish region of Syria to hinder the return of civilians, the declaration stressed that international anti-mines organizations should also take charge in the clearance of the mines in Kobanê.

Putting emphasis on the essentiality of Turkey's opening its borders to enable the delivery of aid into Kobanê, the declaration condemned the attack conducted by ISIS gangs on Kobanê on 25-27 June.

The final declaration also emphasised that the United Nations and international community should investigate this massacre, and that aid for Kobanê should be provided on regular basis.
