Final statement of Kurdish meeting

Final statement of Kurdish meeting

"Unity through Collective Thinking" meeting ended in Diyarbakýr. The meeting so the participation of many Kurdish parties, organizations and belief groups.

The final declaration of the meeting which was released at the office of Southeastern Community of Journalists says the followings:

"We consider it a historical duty to release this declaration which we prepared with an agreement reached following a consultation on the subjects of risks and advantages for Kurds in the Middle East, basic principles of a common struggle, the new Constitution, Kurds and the national conference.

Before all, we would like to express that the national Kurdish issue is a problem born from the denial of Kurdish nation's rights. As all governments dominating the Kurdish territory for the last 90 years have not regarded Kurds as a people, we are of the opinion that the issue of Kurds and Kurdistan cannot be solved without ensuring a governmental and political status for Kurds in the territory of Kurdistan. Justice, freedom, together living and an honorable peace will only become possible with the realization of this demand.

In parallel to the change in the world, the recent developments in the Middle East have enabled significant opportunities for the oppressed people here. The developments in the region reveal that dictator and oppression regimes and policies of refusal and denial will no more produce any results. In today's world, it is no more possible to impose a non-status living on an ancient 40 million people by means of repression and pressure. It shouldn't be forgotten that a permanent peace in the Middle East cannot be established without granting Kurds all their political rights.

All peoples, ideas, beliefs, politics and persons in Kurdistan constitute the richness of the ancient people of Kurdistan. The presence of political parties, groups, organizations and persons of different ideas are indispensable to our pluralist democratic social structure.

We also declare that we will adopt a common stance against all policies of repression and arrest against Kurds and that we will not consider ourselves free unless all Kurdish political prisoners are released from prisons in Kurdistan.

We would like to express loudly to the Turkey and world public opinion that no results will be obtained from the efforts given for separating Kurds by making them fight against each other and by using the differences among them.

All Kurdish political parties, groups, organizations and persons both in and outside the country should adopt a common language and manner to serve for the unity. In this respect, a delegation will soon start works to form a national unity and mechanisms affiliated to it.

Unity doesn't mean oneness and a national alliance means a common effort by different organizations and ideas. In this respect, we announce to the public that we have started a common struggle in the formation process of the new Constitution and that we intend to collect millions of signatures for the recognition of our basic demand in the Constitution.

We will step up our works to practice the Kurdistan Conference in the soonest time to ensure justice, freedom, status and honorable peace in Kurdistan.

With the opinion that the future, peace, economic and social development of our people bases on a common struggle, we wish a happy Newroz to all our people and hope it will lead to unity and freedom."
