Five killed in Turkish helicopter crash

Five soldiers were killed and seven others were injured after a Turkish military helicopter crashed shortly after taking off from the Daðlica outpost in southeastern Turkey near the Iraqi border on Sunday.

The Skorsky type military cargo helicopter, carrying four crew members and 11 security personnel to the operation area in the region, crashed in Yüksekova town of Hakkari province due to technical failure, according to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) statement posted on its website on Sunday.

Local sources have however reported that the helicopter was downed by the fire of HPG (People’s Defense Forces) guerrillas.

Clashes between Turkish soldiers and HPG guerrillas and military reinforcement transfer to the region are reported to be continuing.

On the other hand, one soldier died and 15 others were wounded as a result of an accidental hand grenade explosion in Yeþiltaþ outpost of Hakkari on Sunday night. The wounded soldiers, reported to be seriously injured, have been sent to hospitals in Van.
