Forest fires caused by artillery shootings in Þýrnak

The artillery shootings on Cudi mountain in Þýrnak started fires in forested lands of Hisar, Çaðlayan and Tuþimyan areas.

According to reports received, great fires broke out in the three areas which were targeted by the artillery shootings of a military unit in the region on Friday night.

Forest fires in the area especially increase in summer because of Turkish army attacks as well as fires set up deliberately by Turkish soldiers. HPG’s 2011 war statement reported that the attacks by the Turkish army started fire in 43 forests last year. The region of Dersim witnessed a forest fire in 2010 which lasted two months and destroyed hundreds of hectares of a forested land.
