Education and Science Workers Trade Union (Egitim-Sen) member four teachers, who joined the commemoration ceremony of 12-year-old Uður Kaymaz who was killed by police in Kýzýltepe district of Mardin on 21 November 2004, have been arrested and sent to prison for allegedly “disseminating propaganda for an illegal organization".
Kýzýltepe Eðitim-Sen Representative Salih Kuday, Egitim-Sen executive Abdülkadir Demir, former executive member Mehmet Ali Çiçek and union member Erdal Çam were taken into custody yesterday morning in connection with their participation in the march in memory of Uður Kaymaz on 24 November 2010.
Egitim-Sen member teachers, who were referred to Kýzýltepe Penal Court of First Instance with an arrest demand after the interrogation, were arrested and sent to Mardin E-Type Closed Prison.
Erdal Kuzu, the lawyer of arrested Egitim-Sen members, remarked that the court showed only the commemoration ceremony as the justification of arrests, while the police-records don’t even have an image of a slogan and cheer of the arrestees.
